Negotiating a license for an e-resource

When a selector identifies a new online resource for acquisition, many vendors require that Harvard agrees to a specific set of terms of use, generally referred to as a license agreement. The E-Resources unit negotiates license agreement terms with vendors, ensuring not only favorable terms, but also compliance with requirements for contracts determined by the Office of General Counsel.

Best practices for licensing can be found in the most recent edition of the Harvard Library Standard License. For additional information, including guidelines for licensing terms and a license negotiation checklist, please refer to the E-Resources unit wiki page on licensing.
